This course discusses all aspects of confined space entry, focusing on the more common entries found on construction sites. Topics covered are identifying confined spaces, the permit system, the various roles and duties of the supervisor, attendant, and entrant, the means and methods for entry, and excavation.
The excavation protective systems course covers preplanning aspects of the project, soils classification, and the three major types of protective systems: sloping or benching of the trench walls, shoring the trench walls, and placement of trench boxes to protect the worker(s). Utility locating services, and rescue awareness are also presented.

Falls: ladders; elevated walking/working surfaces; horizontal lifelines; getting on and off heavy equipment; slip and trip hazards
Struck by: vehicular traffic; heavy equipment; moving loads; work zone safety
Caught between: recognizing caught between hazards; moving loads; avoiding pinch points
Electrical shock: working around overhead powerlines; locating, digging around underground electrical powerlines and other buried utilities

Training will include Contractor's Review; Quality Management Planning; Preconstruction Conference and Coordination Meeting; Submittals; Quality Management during Construction; Making the System Work; Resident Management System and overview of Quality Control System (QCS) a contract administration computer program.
